Vets Refer To Us With Confidence

DogFit Physiotherapy follows a multidisciplinary approach, and practices animal physiotherapy in consultation with the client's Veterinarian (GP and/or Specialist). We are very supportive of our Veterinary colleagues believing that outcomes are better when we work together. #nomv

If you'd like to refer a patient, you can either email info@dogfitphysio.com or call / SMS 0457 877 321 anytime.

If one of your Clients has approached us for Physiotherapy for their pet, you will receive an email or phone call from us requesting any clinical history & imaging. This is to inform our clinical management, ensure their safety during our interventions and to reinforce & compliment your care plan. We always recommend clients see their Vet regularly.

We will send updates about their physiotherapy progress. If we have any concerns about the health or welfare of the animal we will ALWAYS contact you immediately.

How Can We Support You?

Like you, we want the best outcome for animals. Collaboration is a great way to do this.

Senior Dog Care

Help your clients understand that ageing does not have to equal a grumpy, overweight & withdrawn pet.

We'd love to collaborate to provide a multi-pronged approach to managing age-related conditions, including promoting the use of medication where appropriate in conjunction with tailored advice & activities.

Surgery Prehab & Rehab

The clinical evidence is there that orthopaedic & some neurological surgery outcomes are better with prehab and post-op rehabilitation. In the human world, developing & implementing these in conjunction with Surgeons is bread & butter for us physiotherapists, and it's what patients expect. We believe animals deserve this too.

It's unthinkable to us that someone would have a cruciate ligament reconstruction without physiotherapy for many weeks following.

Geek-out

We will happily attend surgeries and consultations to learn from you! We'd love the opportunity to discuss where current human & animal research could be applied to both of our professions in real time.

This is a method used in human hospitals and results in considerable efficiency savings.

Anxious Dogs

Anxiety in its various forms appears to be prevalent in pets! Physical activities can improve mental and physical health by providing enrichment, reducing inflammation & calming hypervigilant nervous systems. Several physical diagnoses in humans have been found to be associated with mental health disorders, such as generalised hypermobility occuring in 80% of people with A.D.H.D. Physiotherapy is of huge benefit to humans with Hypermobility which commonly co-occurs with Generalised Anxiety Disorder.

About Us

Emma Duffy

Emma qualified as a Chartered State-Registered Physiotherapist in the UK in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science with Honours at the University of Liverpool.  Working through all available clinical specialities over the following 15 years in public University Hospitals, she found neurosurgery & orthopaedics the most fascinating and attended Theatre as often as the Surgeons would permit.

Having a huge love for animals she concurrently joined the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Animal Therapy (ACPAT), who at the time were spearheading the development of animal physiotherapy as a formal post-graduate qualification at the Uni of Liverpool. She obtained a qualification in Canine Massage while working for free with small animal Vets who were open to having a Physio around the place.

Emma also studied and gained several qualifications in acupuncture (AACP), which she still uses successfully with many patients.

Moving into the human musculoskeletal, disabilities & paediatric specialties was a way to increase her breadth of knowledge further. Eventually going into management and Consulting, she found her way to Australia and had the privilege of working with Dr Helen Nicholson at Whole Family Health in St Marys. Emma has mentored Vets undertaking the US-based CCRP and animal physiotherapists in training.

Due to Whole Family Health moving, Emma relocated and is now mobile around Sydney seeing dogs in their own homes. She enjoys working closely with Vet Specialists especially when a complex case lands on her doorstep and a clinical debate ensues!
